Using the Toolbar

The toolbar allows you to interact with the map by clicking on the map with a tool. For example, if you click in the toolbar on the Zoom In tool, then click on the map, the map will zoom in around where you click.

You can also interact with the map using the keyboard. Also see Using the mouse for tips on using the mouse to interact with the map.

To use a tool

Note: Some tools do an action immediately. These include the Full-extent tool and the Magnifier tool.

Tools

Tools in your website depend on the purpose and use of the application. Some or all of these may be available:

Name Icon Description
Navigation Tool Navigation Tool Click and navigate the map in any direction: Click and hold the left mouse button on the irection you would like the map to navigate to. The map will be moved on the selected direction.
Show Overview Map Open Overview Map Click to open Overview Map: Click or frag the overview map to a desired location. The map will zoom in to the area of the Overview Map.
Show Table of Contents Open Table of Contents Click to open the Table of Contents: Click to view the Table of Contents. Click the layer's checkboxes to make a layer visible or not visible. The map will display all the visible layers at the current scale.
Zoom in Zoom in tool Click and drag a rectangle: Click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle to zoom in to. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the area of the rectangle.
Zoom out Zoom out tool Click and drag a rectangle: the map will zoom out so that the current map area will fit into the rectangle drawn. The smaller the rectangle you draw, the more the map will zoom out.
Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.
Full extent Full map extent Full extent: Immediately zooms the map out to the area of all features and layers. The active tool does not change.
Zoom to Scale Zoom to Scale Zoom to Scale: Click to open the tool window. Select the scale either from the dropdown or enter a custom scale, then click Zoom. The map will be zoomed to the selected scale.
Zoom to City/Township Zoom to City/Township Zoom to City/Township: Immediately zooms the map to it's full extent. The user then should click on the city or township they would like the map to be zoomed to. The map will be zoomed to the selected City/Township. If there is a City and a Township on the location where the user clicked, the map will be zoomed to the City extent.
Previous Extent Zoom to Previous Extent Zoom to Previous Extent: Immediately zooms the map to the previous extent if availale.
Next Extent Zoom to Next Extent Zoom to Next Extent: Immediately zooms the map to the next extent if availale.
Identify Identify tool Click to identify: Click with the left mouse button on the map. A small icon is added to the map identify icon and the Results window is displayed.
Measure Measure tool Measure distance or area: See Measuring for usage.
Display Results Window Display Results Display Results Window: The Results window is displayed.
Clear Results Clear Results Clear Results: Immediately clears all the selection and highlights on the map.
Printing Tool Printing Tool Printing Tool: This tool allows you to print the map and the search results on a PDF format. See Printing for usage.
