Quick Tour

The SandGIS Viewer application enables you to explore Sandusky County maps and retrieve information about parcels.

How It Works

SandGIS Viewer Areas

The SandGIS Viewer application is divided into three regions:

  • Application banner at the top with tools available for interacting with the map.
  • The Map area displays the map of Sandusky County.
  • Search tools panel on the left side. The search tools are used to retrieve parcel information.

Navigating the Map

There are a few ways to zoom and pan the map.

  • If you have a wheel mouse, zoom in on the map by moving the mouse cursor over the map and scrolling the wheel forward a few times. To zoom out using the scroll wheel, simply scroll backward.
  • If you have a keyboard, hold the shift key while dragging a rectangle on the map to zoom to a specific area of the map.
  • If you are using a touch screen, using the pinch gesture to zoom to a specific area of the map.
  • Click on the + or - sign on the map to zoom in (+) or out (-).
  • To pan around the map, click on it then drag away from the location you want to see.

Parcel Information

There are two main ways of obtaining parcel information.

  • In the Toolbar, click the Parcel Identify tool then click on the feature of interest on the map. The Results window will display the results.
  • In the Search panel, enter the Parcel ID, a Last Name, or an Address, in the appropriate text boxes, then click on the corresponding Submit button (or hit the Enter button on your keyboard). The results window will display the results of your search.

View Additional Map Layers

  • Click on the Table of Contents tool.
  • Turn one of the layers "on" by checking the checkbox next to its name.

Working with Map Layers

  • Open the Table of Contents window by clicking on the Table of Contents button on the toolbar.
  • You can expand a layer to display sub-layers by clicking on the arrow next to the layer name.
  • The checkbox next to the layer indicates whether th elayer is currently turned on.
  • If enabled, you can click the checkbox next to the layer name to turn the layer on or off. The map automatically redraws to reflect the changes in layer visibility.
  • Some layers may not be visible at the current map scale (zoom level). These layers are called scale dependent. You may need to zoom the map in or out to see a particular layer displayed, even if its check-box is checked to draw.
